Dr. Janet McGugan is a Strathroy-Caradoc native who attended both public and secondary school in Strathroy-Caradoc. She lives on her family farm in the area once more and has re-booted her pre-1979 life!
She graduated with her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo in 1985, and during her Optometric career, has served as a board member and Committee Chair with the Ontario Association of Optometrist. Won the OAO Young Optometrists Award in 1993 for contributions to her profession and has become a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, worked as a part-time Clinical Supervisor in the Contact Lens Clinic at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and has been an examiner of the Canadian board exams for Optometry.
Janet has been a member of the Rotary Club of Strathroy since 1996. She served as President in 2000-2001 and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Janet has also been a member of the Strathroy Chamber of Commerce since it began in 1998 and now serves on the Board of Directors.
Janet has served as a part of a Canadian eye care team since 1998 that travels to third world countries offering their services free of charge. They perform eye examinations and distribute used eyeglasses. Janet has provided space for sorting and packaging close to ten thousand glasses, that are donated each year, for use in third world countries.
